United Baristas is working hard to create free Care Packs for baristas and coffee professionals affected by the current situation with COVID-19 and the closure of so many businesses during this period.

With some employers unable to pay the wages of their staff until Government financial support is able to be distributed, employees are facing hardship on top of this challenging uncertainty. Tim Ridley, founder of United Baristas, came up with the idea of creating #BaristaCare to support the coffee community at this time. On Monday (6 April) they launched registration for the first 250 packs that were literally put together in his garage on Sunday with the help of supporters including Jeffrey Young from Allegra and products donated by businesses including Oatly, Allegra, La Marzocco, Brewed by Hand and Mr Black.

“We want baristas and coffee professionals to know that the coffee industry cares for them,” explains Tim. He continues, “Care Packs have been designed to provide practical support to those baristas facing hardship and emotional support to all.”

The plan is to create up to 500 packs and they are looking for donations and support through auctions – both donating auction prizes and bidding on lots.

Coffee companies have also donated products and services for a series of auctions – with the proceeds going entirely to fund additional Care Packs. The auctions are a great way for coffee drinkers and individuals to be able to support the coffee community. Auctions run twice each week, with bidding closing on Wednesday and Sunday evenings.

Individuals and coffee companies can provide support in a number of ways including financial and product donations. To find out more click here.
